Its design has ebbed and flowed throughout the years, though always retaining that same trailblazing spirit of the original design in some way. The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph in 42mm continues this tradition, incorporating some signature Carrera features with bright colours and subtle automotive inspiration.With rich sunburst brushing in black or blue, the new Carrera Chronograph differs from the collection by the coloured ring appearing just inside the angled chapter ring. Sectioned into thirds, it changes from yellow, to orange, and finally red, matched by the brick-red chrono hands. This design is taken from redlines on tachometer gauges in sports cars. The Carrera Chronograph initially appears to be a two-register layout, but much like the recent TAG x Porsche RS 2.7 collaboration, it sports a minimal running seconds indicator at 6 o’clock, with alternating orange and white dashes for the markers as well as a date window.The case is sized at a modern 42mm, a departure from the original’s 36mm sizing, though the model retains the strut-like, faceted lugs and pump pushers found on many other Carrera models. The polished highlights of the case are reflected by the crown and chrono pushers, while the accompanying leather straps match the dial colours.The screw-down sapphire crystal caseback offers 100 metres of water resistance and a look at the Heuer 02 calibre.
