People are tired of timeless classics and beauty in a vacuum, especially when brands such as Patek Philippe are capable of this evocative artistry. The storied Swiss brand originally released a similar desk clock for Only Watch back in 2021, but now it's back as part of Patek’s W&W 2025 releases, and more ornately decorated than ever. If you've got a cool US$1.17M to blow, you can live out your 1920s business mogul dreams.Of course, a desk clock should be an object of extreme intricacy, especially one that's entirely mechanical from a brand with as much history as Patek Philippe. This particular clock takes after references that were commissioned by James Ward Packard and Henry Graves Jr, two industry titans who also ordered the most complicated pocket watches of the 20s and 30s. Clock aside, the case is absolutely breathtaking. Guilloche waves add a hypnotic texture, while being filled in with an acid green flinque grand feu enamel. Additional adornments include gilt winged lions and other Art Nouveau embellishments. All of the metal components you see are made of 925 sterling silver, which will age beautifully along with the rest of the box.The clock itself is powered by the calibre 86-135 PEND S IRM Q SE, which has a whopping 912 components. If you're fascinated with long power reserves, how about a power reserve of 31 days? Combined with the constant force mechanism, you get a month of accuracy within one second of deviance per day. If you didn't notice from the beautiful silver opaline dial, it's a perpetual calendar that includes a moonphase, a day/night indicator, and a small power reserve indicator surrounding the centre pinion. The central seconds hand also jumps instead of sweeping, which may remind some of quartz, but actually harkens back to large scale clocks.Opening the front of the case reveals the walnut veneer control panel, allowing you to adjust all aspects of the perpetual calendar with simple and labelled push buttons. A removable lever is included for winding the movement, as well as locking or unlocking the adjustment buttons.
