It pains me so to admit this, but oftentimes a story is only as good as the photos that accompany it especially when you’re writing about something as intricate and nuanced as watches. A good snap of a timepiece is not only the glorious icing on a particularly wordy cake, it actually assists us scribes in helping to articulate different facets of a given wristwatch. In short, a good photo is crucial in this game. Luckily for us here at Time+Tide, our photographer is a chap named Jason … and he’s a bloody wonderful photographer. And when Deputy-Editor Nick Kenyon said he wanted me to pick my favourite watch photos from 2019 that Jason had taken, I did so with verve. Here they are.It may have its detractors, but this Franck Muller Color Dreams is like Kate Moss in front of the camera. It’s attached to my wrist in this photo, and it felt like a supreme flex.Chopard’s Alpine Eagle has been similarly divisive. But photos like this prove why the watch should be praised – its dial is genuinely gorgeous.A potentially controversial choice, considering I’m fortunate enough to own one of DOXA’s stunning SUB 200 130th Anniversary timepieces. This photo just does a brilliant job at capturing how attractive this watch is in the metal. The Rolex GMT-Master II 126711CHNR “Root Beer” is a bona fide hot watch, and this excellent photo perfectly exemplifies why … nuff said. This photo expertly brings to light why I consider the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph to have one of the most beautiful dials in the game at any price point.
