The words Tissot PRX have crossed my lips on many occasions over the past year or so since its release, mostly in the context of discussing watches that represent fantastic value. Yet despite its 40mm size and compact lug-to-lug, the non-articulating first link caused some small-wristed wearers to look for other options. But the fantastic five we're covering today resolve those concerns with their 35mm size and fit into a great unisex spot with their wide colour gamut.Honey, I shrunk the case!The PRX case has always been finished well for its price point, and the new 35mm models hold true to that. Four of the five new PRXs retain the familiar stainless-steel look. Satin-finished throughout, with subtle polishes along the flanks and on the bezel, it's a handsome, unobtrusive design that is sufficiently versatile to meet many situations. The length has been reduced to a compact 34.6mm, though be aware of the first link adding a couple of millimetres on each side, with a total thickness of only 9.6mm.Bringing the bling, a new PVD yellow-gold number looks to appease those yearning for a touch of 1978 flared-overall disco fashion. Polished chamfers in between the compact bracelet links might negate the need for a disco ball, given how reflective the PRX bracelets tend to be. The snap-on caseback and push-pull crown ensure 100m of water resistance.It's all about colourBold in its choice of dials, Tissot forgos the ever more popular powdery, pastel colours, choosing vivid sunburst finishes. Two familiar colours, the silver and dark blue, have been taken from the 40mm variant, though enhanced by a deeper contrast that brings out the richness of the dial even more. Rose-gold indices are laid on the silver background, matched by a baton handset.A green dial is no surprise, considering the number of watches refreshed by a touch of the colour, and is seen here with a lush emerald hue. What did catch me off guard is the icy blue dial, similar to this one fitted to a PR100. Both feature silver markers and handsets, which I'm slightly worried about when it comes to the light blue PRX, as there isn't much contrast between the two colours. Speaking of closely matching colours, the golden boy of this group is gold on gold on gold. I like that Tissot is enjoying a little more freedom with the PRX's design, as these fun dials make it quirky, but not over the top.In quartz we trustPowered by an ETA quartz movement, you can expect a three-year battery life while being backed by Tissot's two-year warranty. Although faithful to the original, the quartz PRX's success was encroached upon by its Powermatic 80-equipped brother. With a smaller case and a quartz movement, Tissot has managed to keep these slim, meaning they'll wear phenomenally on many wrists.Tissot PRX 35mm pricing and availability:The new 35mm Tissot PRX will be available later in the year, with more coverage to come.
