Horological Society of New York 2025 Charity Auction | FRIDAY WIND DOWN

Borna Bosnjak
What’s even better than just buying a new watch? Buying one to benefit someone else, of course, like in the case of a charity auction! You can do just that if you take part in the annual event hosted by the Horological Society of New York and Christie’s on March 22nd, with more than just watches up for grabs.Oris has continually supported the HSNY in their charitable efforts, and is donating an Oris ProPilot Altimeter, along with four tickets to go see the New York Yankees, while British brand Brooklands Watch Company contributes their limited-edition Triple-Four chronograph. If your watch boxes are full, however, there are still ways to get horological satisfaction. I’d hazard a guess that your walls might be looking a bit blank, so what better way to resolve that than with an F.P. Journe Chronometre Souverain wall clock? If you want to get your hands dirty – or rather, spectacularly clean – Jaeger-LeCoultre is offering a Reverso workshop experience, where attendees will go on a journey into the Reverso’s past, while getting decidedly hands-on with the watches. For those preferring to consume or wear the finer things in life, Grand Seiko and chef Daisuke Nakazawa are offering a private omakase dinner at his Michelin-starred eponymous restaurant. Alternatively, you can also bid to dine with none other than Jean-Claude Biver – so make sure you prepare a list of hot horological questions. And if you’re going to dinner, you may as well look the part, and you can, as The Armoury is donating a custom Safari Jacket for the lucky winner. But there’s one lot that clearly stands out to me, especially with its listed estimate of US$15,000 – US$35,000, and that’s the Lyrique Heuere Zoulou Air-Sports. This is not Lyrique’s first foray into charitable causes, having donated an etude N 2 Guilloche in 2024, but the reason why the Heure Zoulou is exciting is that this watch isn’t really out yet. There have been whispers of its new Agenhor movement, featuring a double retrograde display for the GMT and small seconds, so it’s great to have it see the light of day. It’s also a testament of the strength of the brand which was started as a collector-driven initiative, as it evolves into its third model and distinct design language. Check it out and have a great weekend!Borna and the Time+Tide TeamWatch meme of the week: time is relativeView this post on InstagramA post shared by @watchumorI know which one I am.Wristshot of the week: do you really need more than this?View this post on InstagramA post shared by NLW by Charles-Hadrien Vinault (@neverlate_watches)While certainly indicative of my own tastes, seeing posts like this make me think I could swing a one-watch collection if I really tried. I’d miss my G-Shock in the gym, but by god would it be a sweet trade-off for this slate blue, ultra-thin Audemars Piguet. Maybe I’m somewhat swayed considering this week’s onslaught of AP novelties, but it’d be hard to say no to something so elegant – just look at that triple index at 12!Time+Tide Shop pick of the week: Fears Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour Raven BlackFears’ Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour is an excellent example of British watchmakers combining powers to make something great come to life. Christopher Ward borrowed their JJ01 jumping hour movement, while Fears shrouded it in their delectable, cushion-shaped Brunswick and gave it a thoroughly captivating dial. The Fears Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour Raven Black is available from the Time+Tide Shop. Price: A$8,100Accessory of the month: Artem Loop-Less HydroFlexNot all watch straps are made equal – and Australian brand Artem knows that better than most. In fact, they're pretty straight-up about the fact that their straps aren't cheap, but they also happen to be some of the nicest in the business. Artem’s latest strap, the Loop-Less HydroFlex, is their best yet: featuring an Omega-style clasp, it’s constructed with an embedded sailcloth texture and grooved, concave venting that makes it both more robust and refined than other rubber straps. It’s very OEM+ and is available in 9 different colours.Artem Loop-Less HydroFlex straps retail for A$440 and are available in a range of lug widths, from 18mm up to 22mm inclusive. Zach gave us a brilliant overview; Russell explored the new, innovative Calibre 7138 QP; Buffy brought the details of a Tuscany blue Code 11.59; Jamie talked about the new ceramic Offshores; and I had the pleasure of introducing the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked that sent off the Calibre 5135.Leonardo DiCaprio is now a Rolex ambassador – here’s everything you need to knowRolex might be turning 105 this year, but that hasn’t stopped Leonardo DiCaprio from wanting to get in bed with the watchmaker, with the Hollywood star being named as the Crown’s latest Testimonee just ahead of the Oscars. In the video above, Zach explains why Leo joining the Rolex family may be more significant than you might think.Swatch introduces a new MoonSwatch, but also teases a Bioceramic Wittnauer 235T and Rolex 6238We got to check out Swatch’s newest MoonSwatch, this time tributing the 1965 NASA flight qualification of the Speedmaster ST105.003. What also caught our eye is that Swatch decided to tribute the Speedy’s two competitors – a Wittnauer and Rolex pre-Daytona – by crafting them from Bioceramic. Read here for the full details of this non-limited release.Every British Watchmakers' Day 2025 special editionBritish Watchmakers' Day is back! And we have 25 special edition watches that have been made specially for the second round of this sold-out event. Russell takes us through all of them in the YouTube video above and in his article here.
