Just ask anyone that knows me, especially my wife, and they can tell you I’ve always liked ‘nice things’ that tend to be on the investment side of the spectrum. I have a ‘thing’ for milspec & military style watches have?had a multitude of them over the years including my 30th Birthday gift from my wife, a?1979 Navy SEAL issue Benrus Diver that I love, some PAMs and an Omega. I also have some other more affordable watches from Marathon, Hamilton and even a couple of Timex. Saying all this, I’ve been trying to simplify?my collection over the last few years. Why the Omega Planet Ocean?Let’s get this out of the way, yes – it’s the proper as worn by Bond in Casino Royale watch, (not the actual watch but not a ‘007 edition’). However I actually got it as I always wanted an Omega, my Dad had one, and I dive, (albeit infrequently). Whilst I rotate it out with a Hamilton Khaki – the PO wins most days as it’s is practical, very?easy to read,?great lume, I use the bezel above the water as a timer, and below for air and decompression timing. It?looks great and importantly keeps decent time. A note that whilst I have them, I never wear the Omega bracelet or rubber strap – but always on one of a growing collection of ZULU straps.Next watchI’ve been eyeing off the Tudor Black Bay, but have always had a thing for the?dateless subs. I’d love a 1979 Sea Dweller, but most are Double Reds and I really cannot afford or justify that!!
