The best watches of the 2025 BAFTAs | POP CULTURE

Jamie Weiss
The 78th British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs, just wrapped in London – and was a slightly less controversial affair than the Golden Globes of last month. Conclave and The Brutalist were the big winners on the night, scoring four awards each, but the BAFTAs also proved to be a win for watch spotters. Unlike many of these sorts of red carpet events, most attendees weren’t wearing watches at all – which was quite surprising to see. Notably, Adrien Brody, who won Best Leading Actor, was bare-wristed as he hoisted his award. However, those stars who did wear watches more than made up for their timepiece-less colleagues, with some serious horological heat on display at British cinema’s night of nights. Here were some of our favourites.Dev Patel – vintage Cartier Tank NormaleCartier image courtesy of Loupe This.Let’s start on a high with the watch that the T+T team unanimously reckons was the standout from the 2025 BAFTAs: Dev Patel’s vintage (circa 1970s) Cartier Tank Normale in 18k yellow gold. Honestly, it doesn’t get much classier than this. The most essentialised version of Cartier’s most iconic watch, Patel’s example features a dial that’s aged to a beautiful, subtle cream.Jeff Goldblum – Vacheron Constantin egerie Creative EditionYou can always count on Jeff Goldblum to make an eclectic style statement, but we didn’t expect him to wear a watch like this. Crafted from white gold and measuring up at 37mm, the Vacheron Constantin egerie Creative Edition exhibits multiple metiers d’art: guilloche, engraving, enamelling and gem setting. It’s actually positioned as a women’s watch, but thanks to its relatively large diameter, we’d say it leans more unisex – especially after Goldblum’s endorsement.Guy Pearce – Omega Speedmaster '57Australia’s very own Guy Pearce, who was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his part in The Brutalist, wore an Omega Speedmaster ’57 with a blue dial and a matching blue calf leather strap. This Speedy was inspired by the original Speedmaster design from 1957 – although it deviates from that model by only having two subregisters and instead opting for a date window at 6 o’clock. However, it sports vintage “broad arrow” hands and a hand-wound movement, although this movement is co-axial and METAS-certified.James McAvoy – IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44Scottish star James McAvoy opted for an IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44 with an 18 ct Armor Gold (IWC’s proprietary 5N red gold alloy) case with a mesmerising black lacquered dial. It utilises the IWC calibre 52616, the most prominent iteration of Kurt Klaus’ groundbreaking perpetual calendar movement, which can be entirely operated via the crown, has an impressive 7-day power reserve and has a moonphase that will only deviate from the actual phase of the moon by just one day after 577.5 years. Will Poulter – Hublot Classic Fusion Black Magic 45mmWill Poulter, who previously won the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2014, went for a Hublot Classic Fusion Black Magic in 45mm, which he wore on his right wrist. A slightly older Hublot model, its imposing case diameter is softened somewhat by its blacked-out colour scheme and ceramic/rubber construction.Jeremy Strong – Richard Mille RM63-01 Dizzy HandsKendall Roy… I mean, Jeremy Strong, is known for his love of Richard Mille – so it probably wasn’t a big surprise to see him choose a RM63-01 for the 2025 BAFTAs. No longer in production, this atypically circular-cased Richard Mille model features a “dizzy hands” function: when a pusher in the centre of its crown is activated, the sapphire glass dial begins to slowly rotate anti-clockwise as the hour hand moves clockwise, both at different speeds. It’s mesmerising and a bit silly; the exact sort of thing you expect from a ‘Millie’.Orlando Bloom – Porsche Design Chronograph 1 All Black Numbered EditionLegolas himself, Mr. Orlando Bloom, showed off Porsche Design’s latest watch model, the Chronograph 1 All Black Numbered Edition, having recently been brought on as the brand’s first ambassador. Featuring a similar look to the Orfina-produced models that made this design famous (and as worn by Tom Cruise in the original Top Gun), it has a matte black titanium case and bracelet.Simon Pegg – Zenith Defy Skyline ChronographThe always-affable Simon Pegg was snapped wearing a black-dialled Zenith Defy Skyline Chronograph, a watch that was recently unveiled at LVMH Watch Week 2025. One of the most visually cohesive Defy Skyline models yet, it’s powered by the legendary El Primero 3600 movement, but does away with the date window at 4:30, providing for enhanced dial symmetry.Leo Woodall – Tiffany & Co. Union Square 30mmBritish actor Leo Woodall, who stars in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and presented the Leading Actress Award alongside co-star Chiwetel Ejiofor at the 2025 BAFTAs, was wearing a 30mm mechanical Tiffany and Co. Union Square on the night. A chic, unisex watch with a boxy design, it features – you guessed it – a Tiffany blue dial. Will Sharpe – Montblanc?Star Legacy Moonphase & Date 36mmBritish-Japanese actor Will Sharpe, who you might know from season 2 of The White Lotus and who won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Giri/Haji, wore an interesting Montblanc Star Legacy on the night. Montblanc’s not a brand we’re used to seeing at awards shows, so it’s good to see them pop up: inspired by Minerva pocket watches from the 19th century, this piece features a filet saute guilloche central dial portion punctuated by a diamond-flanked date wheel at 6 o’clock and a moonphase positioned unconventionally between 10 and 11 o’clock.David Jonsson – Cartier Cloche de Cartier SkeletonLast but certainly not least, we had rising star David Jonsson with a stunning platinum Cloche de Cartier Skeleton, a limited edition of only 50 pieces… Although unfortunately, it looks like he wore it upside down. But as Buffy recently opined, who even uses watches to tell the time anyway? The chainmail vest is also pretty cool.
